Reeds “Green” Carpets a Hit with Labour Party

Britain’s leading independent event and exhibition carpeting contractor, Reeds Carpets, has secured a deal to provide its totally-recyclable carpets at The Labour Party’s Annual Conference for the next three years.

For this year, at the Bournemouth International Centre, the Coventry-based specialists installed almost 5,000 sq m of fully-recyclable EVO-RIB carpeting in the Purbeck and Solent Halls plus the main auditorium, at the Bournemouth International Centre.

The Party selected a tasteful shade of “anthracite”, one of well over 40 shades available in the company’s revolutionary EVO-RIB range which is, itself, one of three ranges of fully-recyclable carpeting that have helped the company scoop three major industry awards this year. The layout in the Purbeck Hall also included a bright red circle of EVO-RIB, eight meters in diameter, to identify the Labour Party’s own stand.

Reeds also laid the anthracite EVO-RIB across sections of the main auditorium and 200 sq m of vinyl flooring on the main stage – in traditional red.

We met the Labour Party’s conference organisers on our stand at this year’s International Confex at Earls Court,” said Reeds Sales Manager John Swain. “They were very interested in our drive to help combat the way in which 12 million sq m of exhibition and event carpeting have been going to landfill every year.

They were also keen to know about our unique in-house carpet recycling plant, which has been operating since January and has a capacity to recycle 3 million sq m of carpet, a year. The proportion of carpeting we supply and fit, that comes back for recycling into plastic pellets for re-use in all manner of applications, has already leapt to over 60 percent” said Swain.

It wasn’t long before detailed discussions with the conference organisers led to our appointment to provide EVO-RIB at the BIC. We are absolutely delighted to have this involvement, and look forward to spreading the word about recycling possibilities, when we take part in the Conference’s associated exhibition.

Ann Kennedy, Head of Exhibitions, Conferences and Events with The Labour Party said: “I was so impressed with the product, the Reeds’ recycling process and the new environmentally-aware concepts involved, that the company was invited to tender to provide this service.

I’m happy to say that Reeds beat some tough competition to secure the work for the next three years. Bournemouth this year, Manchester Central (G-MEX and the MICC) in 2008, and Brighton Centre in 2009.

I’m certainly looking forward to working with the Reeds team on this” she added.

Reeds Commercial Director, Martin Cairns said: “Our commitment to green awareness and good practice has received amazingly positive and encouraging media coverage, and industry attention, over the last 12 months. And it has been most gratifying to receive “green” awards this year from Exhibition News, the Performance Textiles Association and, more recently, the AEO Environmental Sustainability Award.  We will have all the latest news about development of our recycling services, at the Showman’s Show.
