FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER THE SHOWMAN’S SHOW WILL FEATURE THE HIGH FLYING ACTION OF DOCKDOGS®
This year’s Showman’s Show will be host to the high flying action of DockDogs®, the independent governing and sanctioning body for dock jumping and dock diving canine performance sports. The exciting and crowd drawing action will be taking place at the Newbury Showground in Berkshire, UK, on October 20th & 21st so make sure to take advantage of this 2-day spectacle by experiencing the fastest growing sport for canines in the UK.
DockDogs® is the largest diversified presenter of dock jumping and dock diving Dog Performance Sports in the world. DockDogs® plans, manages and executes over 200 live events at venues around the globe, providing high quality forms of both competition and family entertainment to millions of fans.
Throughout the show hours, DockDogs® will present numerous Big Air® Wave demonstrations. Big Air® is the original and still most popular DockDogs® competition because people like to compete and have something to do with their dogs that doesn’t require hours of time and training. In Big Air®, anyone 7 years or older with any breed of dog (no matter what size or shape) that is at least 6 months old and has a throw toy can compete. Each dog and their “Handler” are a competition team and each team competes head-to-head against one another to see which team can jump the farthest distance.
Each team is allotted 90 seconds to get the dog down the dock and into the water. Every dog that jumps off the dock gets an official jump recorded which correlates into a national ranking for the team. The Head Judge will evaluate all jumps electronically using digital video stop-action technology.
The official jump distance will be measured from the lateral midpoint of the end of the dock to the point at which the base of the dog’s tail breaks the water’s surface. And when all’s said and done - the dog that jumps the farthest takes home the crown!
In addition to the Big Air® competitions, DockDogs® events also feature The Extreme Vertical® competition which is a “High Jump” for dogs, as they each lunge to snag a “bumper” suspended in the air. With each grab, the height increases in 2-inch increments until only one dog is crowned king.
Rounding off the action is the newest form of competition known as Speed Retrieve® – where the dogs are put on the clock to see how fast they can run down the dock, jump into the water, swim to the end of the pool and retrieve an object which is held by a modified extender arm.
