Horkesley Park Suffolk Punch Display Team - The Gentle Giants

Established in 1820, the Horkesley Park Suffolk Punches are a division of Bunting & Sons, a 7th generation family run business, based in Colchester.

Bunting & Sons currently have 14 of the 27 Suffolk Punches now left in Essex, 4 viable breeding mares, 3 fillies and 7 working geldings.  This year Bunting & Sons have produced two filly foals with only 18 being registered in the world.

The Suffolk horse is East Anglia’s only breed of heavy horse.  There were once over 300,000 Suffolks, predominantly in East Anglia but numbers have dwindled and the Suffolk horse is now on the Category 1 endangered list with fewer than 400 pure bred UK registered Suffolks of potential breeding stock left in the world.

Bunting & Sons are working hard to raise awareness of the Suffolk Punch as a rare historic breed and encourage active support in maintaining and expanding the breed.  They work with the Suffolk Horse Society and other breeders to give the Suffolk Punches a working purpose and to help secure their future.

The Horkesley Park Suffolk Punch heavy horse team regularly attend a wide range of country shows and events providing exciting and interesting working displays of traditional horsemanship.

Take time out to talk with the team at The Showman’s Show, you’ll find them at stand 290, Avenue F.
